to itchycoo park, that's where i've been

well i don't know where the hell itchycoo park is, but if it's as beautiful as the small faces say, then i want to go immediately.

?

basically i've been listening to abbey road all day with a little sidecar of skynyrd, the allman bros and dylan. it makes me feel a little sad that i'm too young to have experienced any of it in real time. my mom was kind of a hippy- and when i flip through her yearbooks i think it would have been cool to be in highschool with her and see her how she was before she became so tall in my eyes.

i used to have a red t-shirt with the abbey road cover on it but i stopped wearing it after a while because of the slack i got from older folks telling me that i didn't know jack shit about the beatles and blah blah john lennon was shot before i was born blah blah i was just doing it to look cool blah blah fucking blah. who knew you needed credentials to like a band?

music snobs make me batty.

even though i kinda am one.

ah well.

while my guitar gently weeps is my favourite beatles song.

you?

he is the walrus, coo coo cachoo

Ahem. The sixties had their share of crap, too. Groovy Kind of Love? Sugar Shack? They weren't all great, you know.

I like Blackbird. When my oldest was born, she never slept. We'd stay up all night listening to the White Album.

aaron: i love strawberry fields forever!

uber: if for some unforseen reason, abbey road was to disappear into the mystic- the white album would be my second choice for certain for it contains while my guitar gently weeps as well as happiness is a warm gun.

anthony: i like the pop tunes too. you can't do that, eight days a week and all you need is love are my good mood music.

I'd have to say that Something is one of my favorites, but I've got so many it's hard to choose just one.

I remember when I was little I used to take my parents' Beatles albums and sneak them into my bedroom to listen to them on my little record player. Their music made me think of my father (my parents were divorced), and it made me feel closer to him as he used to sing Beatles songs to me before they got divorced. God, I really love that music...

I hate to pick just one because the entire Revolver album just kicks ass.

here's my take on the beatles and why old people go on about them. it's true that they were just a pop band when they started. when you listen to songs like yellow submarine and i wanna hold your hand, it's pretty obvious that's it's mostly fluff. the difference between the beatles and every other pop band from the sixties is that people still play their records. people still play their records because john lennon was the voice of a generation. the music was always pretty generic, but later on, john's view of the world and his lyrics became so insightful and comforting. on top of that, paul mccartney is one of the most underrated songwriters of all time. the reason that "old people" go on about them is because to be a part of that whole phenomenon in the sixties and then grow with it for the next twenty years- it's like a bond. for me, i listened to my mom's beatles records like sandra did. i still listen to them now and i'll play them when i have kids.

that's how you know a band is great- when the music keeps getting passed down.

so there.

i have all of my parents beatles records (in full, my dad was a big fan) i listen to them all the time. there is no way i could chose a favorite song. they all make me feel something. even the "fluff" songs bring back good memories.

also in my collection, some pink floyd, reo speedwagon, led zeppelin, and styx.(just a note, these are very important to me, my dad left when i was 4 days old and he left these with my mom to give to me)

I have a collection of vinyl myself, some of which I managed to buy before my favourite local record shop went outta business, but most of the rest I refused to let my father have after his ass walked out with half our furniture, stereo equipment tools and the like, and proceeding to go on a drama parade.

I have to find a copy of Dark Side with the posters in it still though as my Green Pyramid poster got ripped up on me while moving shit around for a renovation. Any sellers?

i think it stands out from most other beatles songs because it was written by george harrison, not lennon-mccartney.

it's a wicked song.

I think Bono started the rumour that U2 are the voice of a generation.

In case it's not obvious I think U2 are hideously overrated.

...at least lately

props to Bono for raising awareness and all that, but their music doesn't reflect it, and isn't very entertaining.

But if it makes money that he then puts some of towards the causes he supports it can't be all bad I guess.

yea oasis in my opinion is a one album wonder...Jet is a ripoff group of other artists successes...I thought the same of the Killers at first too, but they are really starting to grow on me (the non radio play stuff anyways).

The difficulty is in weeding out the good bands...most of them now get supported by the pop market, and you have to dig, or stay loyal to older artists for the good stuff...

I'm supposed to stay loyal to Jet because they're Australian...
but did anyone notice that 'Are you gonna be my girl' sounded exactly like Iggy Pop's 'Lust for Life'?
